Joe Acone is a painter whose practice centers on portraiture, exploring how presence, memory, and character can be rendered in paint. His work bridges private commissions and personal projects, creating portraits that honor individuality while carrying the permanence and depth of fine art.
In addition to his studio practice, Acone serves as Chair of Arts & Design at The Derryfield School, where he leads the department and teaches visual art. With over a decade of experience as both an educator and exhibiting artist, he has presented work in regional and national exhibitions and guided students at the college and secondary levels in drawing, painting, and creative practice.
Acone’s portraits are sought after for their balance of fidelity and interpretation — works that reflect the uniqueness of their subjects while standing as enduring heirlooms. Rooted in New England, he maintains an active practice that moves fluidly between commissioned works, teaching, and studio-based inquiry, always with the goal of creating paintings that resonate across time.
